12/14/07: A Blair County, Pennsylvania jury has found Tammy Grimes GUILTY of theft and receiving stolen property. Sentencing is set for February 22, 2008.

FROM KINSHIP CIRCLE: After speaking to Tammy today (12/15), I understand her misdemeanor "crimes" could merit 1-2 years jail time. Although, she is more apt to incur a fine and probation at her sentencing in February. During the trial, Tammy and her lawyer were NOT permitted to show video footage of Doogie (called "Jake" by his negligent caretakers)...on the ground unable to move or stand for at least three days.

Tammy wrote: "When we arrived, we took photos and video of Doogie. We initially thought he was dead, as he was not moving and his back was to us. We found out the people were not home to talk to about him, so I made the decision that I would not leave him lying there on the cold wet ground for one moment longer, and I would accept all consequences of my decision."

An ACO at Neosho Animal Control Dept. (city pound) in Neosho, Missouri left town for a week and three dogs and two cats died at the shelter... Apparently the cops were in charge of food/water while [Ben] was on vacation from this city shelter. We need to get these dogs out. I cannot believe animals are dying in the city shelter from starvation. Please help.

We're trying to get the Westies out. There was a boxer starving to death (put down today). Transport assistance is available if rescues let the shelter know they can take some dogs off their hands. This is a crisis situation.

US Animal Protection launched an investigation regarding the care and treatment of exotic wild animals living in San Antonio, Texas. TheAnimal Sanctuary of the United States — DBA The Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) — claims to have hundreds of exotic wild animals on two properties (one regulated by the USDA and the other unregulated)...

Several years ago, an animal lover rescued 100+ potbellied pigs from a dire situation... Here are excerpts from her account: Wild Animal Orphanage agreed to take all [the pigs]. Carol and Ron Asvestas said they'd need $4,500 up front to cover the cost of constructing a new barn for the pigs...

Some months after the arrival of the pigs at WAO, Carol sent about half of them to a board member. She said she kept the rest. She never gave a name or address, but said the pigs were close by and she checked them regularly and "they were fine!" Much later, she said all the pigs were sent to two different board member's homes, but again, the pigs were nearby... At one point I was told Carol said she "got rid of them" and later told by someone else that Ron had been seen loading all the pigs on a truck not long after they arrived at WAO. I was told a few pigs couldn't be caught and may still be at WAO, but I have found no one to this day who has seen them... It's torture not knowing their whereabouts or if they're alive or dead...

I am very concerned about 100+ potbellied pigs Wild Animal Orphanage took in several years ago. Your organization agreed to provide 100+ potbellied pigs a permanent home. It is now reported pigs are no longer living at Wild Animal Orphanage and circumstances regarding their location are unclear.

Many people placed animals in your care, expecting the animals would receive life-long quality care at WAO. It saddens me to learn the pigs may have been relocated or suffered a worse fate, after promises made for quality life-long care were made to the public by way of media news coverage.

I, and many others, would like to know the fate of the 100+ potbellied pigs who used to reside at WAO. Please provide an updated story and current dated photos of the pigs residing at their new home on your website. You claim to have about 10 potbellied pigs on your property — so where are the 90+ potbellied pigs? If you could also include pictures of your 10 pigs living in their new and improved home, it would go a long way to institute good faith within the animal rescue community.

THE WORST PART OF ALL THIS? The dogs came off the track in Spain and went to rescue at Scooby Medina, then were flown to Greyhound Friends in MA to be adopted out in the U.S. The poor dogs were supposed to have the life of Riley, but instead ended up among the living dead!

Any dog who charges his/her own fence FROM WITHIN HIS/HER OWN YARD may be labeled "vicious" and "dangerous" by the city and put to death. Any dog in a kennel can be labeled similarly. Anyone scared of dogs can claim the dog was barking viciously, or going to come over the fence at them, and the dog is dead. SAN ANTONIO WANTS TO MAKE THIS A DEATH PENALTY CRIME...with animal control and politicians judging which dog is vicious vs. scared vs. protective.

Sec. 5-147 Keeping of vicious animals. Any animal owned or kept determined to be vicious if:
(a) Because of its physical nature and vicious propensity it is capable of inflicting serious physical harm or death to human beings...or property; or

(b) Without reasonable provocation habitually has behaved within the enclosure in which it was being kept in such a manner the owner reasonably knows the animal is possessed of tendencies to attack or bite; or

(c) It commits unprovoked acts while in the enclosure...and those acts cause a person to reasonable believe that the animal will attack and cause bodily injury to that person or

(d) An animal which acts in a highly aggressive manner while in the enclosure...and appears to a reasonable person able to jump over or escape.
