DISASTER ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM (DART): KINSHIP CIRCLE DART activates in emergencies for animal disaster victims. Our responders reflect a range of training and certification in search-rescue, veterinary aid, crisis sheltering, fire and water rescue, large animal rescue, technical rescue…
Saving animals in disasters is expensive. Below is a snapshot: FIELD WORK: (Trap, Treat, Transport) Gear for first aid, emergency veterinary, food-water, search-rescue, transport (vehicles, gas, stretchers, catchpoles, traps, bite-proof gloves…)
TRIAGE/SHELTER: Construction for temp shelter (tents, enclosures, fencing…) On-site vets and volunteers for intake, exam, care, treatment.
ANIMAL CARE: Food, water, storage, leashes, collars, ID systems…
DISASTER RESPONSE: To deploy qualified first responders and veterinary volunteers, plus manage the operaton, funding is essential for travel, lodging, field sustenance, communications, messaging, unique protective gear…
ANIMAL CRUELTY INVESTIGATIVE RESEARCH & ACTION: KINSHIP CIRCLE rallies voices worldwide to seek legislative, industry and societal reforms for animals. Our founding focus is investigative research and action campaigns to end cruel practices and enforce or enact animal laws.
GOAL: Employ An Investigative Researcher — Kinship Circle is an all-volunteer organization. That means no paid staff to assist with anything from membership, fundraising, website…to anti-cruelty campaigns, educational materials, disaster aid, etc. A research aide would let us cover the many issues you request…and provide more tools to take action.HUMANE EDUCATION & OUTREACH: EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS & RESOURCES are online for you to download free in Kinship Circle’s extensive Literature Library. Use for:
➔ Humane Education Settings
➔ Leafleting, Tabling, Demos
➔ Student Projects & Other Academic Pursuits
➔ Presentations, Lectures, Workshops
➔ Letters, Essays, Articles
➔ Media Press Kits & Interviews
GOAL: Mass print literature and develop learning initiatives — With funding, we can produce literature for educators, advocates, students. We can develop age-appropriate educational materials. Knowledge empowers people to make cruelty-free choices.
Fear. Then cautious relief. That’s what we see in animals found after disasters. A tail wags. Eyes soften. A faint purr…neigh, grunt or moo. All animals want to live.
Mabel came to symbolize that will. Rescued from a bridge over Thailand floodwaters with a dislocated pelvis, she was emaciated. Over the days I doted on her Mabel’s face brightened, even in a chaotic flood shelter. Once stable, Mabel flew 9,000 miles from Bangkok, Thailand to join my family in the USA.
At first the Bangkok street dog was unsure how to be a "pet," so she watched my other dogs (the cats, not so much): Liberty, a beagle; Mandy, a Lhasa Apso; and Ethel, a Lhasa mix since killed by a speeding car. Despite this tragedy, Mabel has evolved into a lovely Basenji mix with deer-like grace and soulful eyes. She enjoys hound stuff with her bud Liberty, bedtop naps, and stir-fry (a veg-protein-rice dish Thai volunteers made for animals).
Mabel is a daily reminder why Kinship Circle travels halfway around the world to reach animal disaster victims. Each one is a story, filled with intimate detail and great capacity to love.
Mabel still faces surgery to remove a femoral hip bone damaged by flood-swept debris.A low estimate is $2,500.
