Do Not Alter Law For Consumptive Use Of Cats And Dogs The Ministry of Environment plans to categorize dogs as livestock to regulate the sanitation practices of large-scale dog breeders. There are about 720,000 dog farms, raising some 2.3 million dogs. Respectfully demand the Korean government takes no action to amend the Animal Protection Law of 1991. An amendment categorizes some as "pet animals," others as food-source animals, and allows consumptive use of certain dogs and cats. Those bred as family companions are protected, while other dogs and cats — strays and those purposefully raised for food or medicine — are not. This proposed law turns a blind eye on the cruelty inherent in the dog/cat consumption trade: Prolonged beatings, dismemberment, hangings, live boiling, and more brutal customs thought to enhance flavor and potency. Hypocrisy Of Saving Dogs And Cats While Eating Pigs And Cows Kinship Circle recognizes that some feel it's hypocritical to protest the consumptive use of dogs and cats while other sentient creatures live in wretched conditions and die horribly under the knife. Please note that we regularly post action campaigns on animals farmed for food. We have addressed this hypocrisy in our literature, an article that ran as The Animals Voice cover story: One Country's Companion Is Another's Cuisine. We wholly reject the consumptive use of ANY animal, including dogs, cats, horses, chickens, pigs, cows, fishes, turkeys, ducks, etc. |
